In a massage therapist’s tool box, a variety of skills and techniques are available to treat different conditions. Each massage is individualized; each massage is dependent upon the goals of treatment, which dictates what technique(s) will be used.
The following is a list of modalities and techniques that RMTs are taught in the 3,000-hour program.
Myofascial Release:
• Myofascial Release is an effective technique that provides a whole-body, hands-on approach of evaluation AND treatment.
• Myofascial Release focuses on the fascial system
• The purpose of Myofascial Release is to stretch and loosen tightened layers of fascia to relieve pain, to restore tissue equilibrium, and to restore function
• Myofascial Release helps to improve vertical alignment and to lengthen the body which provides more space for the structures within that area
Trigger Point Therapy:
• Trigger points are hyper-irritable localized myofascial tissue that perpetuates the pain-tension cycle and can lead to sustained muscle contraction & weakness
• Trigger points are often associated with repetitive strain injuries, poor posture, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, TMJ, vertigo, and sinus pain
